Does Africa have no history?

In fact, it's not people's fault. When people think of Africa, they often think of it as a backward continent, lacking culture, devoid of great civilizations. They tend to think more of safaris, documentaries about villages, and Maasai people jumping around.

However, Africa is a place rich in culture and history, from Ancient Egypt and the pharaohs, to the nubian kingdoms of Kush and Aksum, the indomitable numidians and mauritanians who served the powerful Carthage, and the garamantes nomads who roamed the Sahara Desert in horse-drawn chariots before camels arrived on the continent with the arabs. We also have the once-flourishing Timbuktu, the jewel of the Mali Empire of Sundiata Keita and the Songhai Empire. The Yoruba kingdoms, the Ashanti of Ghana, the powerful Bantu and Zulu peoples, the rich trading cities of East Africa—discover the authentic Africa, far from colonial prejudices. You have many examples: the pyramids in Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia that house some of the ancient churches of the Christian faith; the simple but majestic Sahelian mosques like the one in Timbuktu; the primitive walls of some Bantu settlements crowned by mysterious statues of falcons.
